OFFICE OF THE
DISTRICT ATTORNEY
VAL VERDE, KINNEY & TERRELL
COUNTIES, TEXAS
SUZANNE WEST
Suzanne West grew up mostly in Kerrville, Texas, attended the University of Texas at Austin, and then taught fifth graders and coached volleyball and softball in Lago Vista, Texas. After a few years, she then received her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2005.
In 2020, Suzanne won election as the 63rd Judicial District Attorney, and took office in January of 2021. Suzanne was formerly the chief misdemeanor prosecutor in Kendall County and then spent three years as an assistant district attorney in the 63rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, serving Val Verde, Kinney, Terrell, and at that time, Edwards Counties. Suzanne has prosecuted every type and level of offense, represented the state in appellate cases, and even published articles on prosecution practices. Before taking office, Suzanne was the City Attorney for the City of Del Rio for nine years, and has thus worked with law enforcement, advised elected officials, and at time of taking office had prosecuted for 16 years
Suzanne is married to Derome West, a former Army Ranger and retired Texas DPS Aircraft Lieutenant who continues to fly helicopters for an emergency response company. Their two sons have been raised in Del Rio, and the West family is active in the outdoors.
Suzanne’s tenure as District Attorney is focused on improving outcomes in the justice system. One way that this will occur is with a focus on Victim’s Services, and in the first budget cycle the office has already grown to fund the district’s first ever Victim’s Assistance Coordinator. Suzanne intends to transform the District Attorney’s Office into one of the best in the state, and will continue to grow programs in our community in order to advance excellence in the district’s prosecutions.
